The book is funded and published by the Shanghai Marxist Academic Publications Foundation. It systematically and convincingly demonstrates the Physiocrats’ basic economic views and their origins in ancient Chinese thought. This is a very innovative, unique and exciting research. Many scholars in China have regarded the work as a breakthrough in the study of the history of economics, because of which the author has won the second prize of outstanding achievement in Shanghai’s philosophy and social sciences.
Tan Min, Ph.D., is a distinguished professor at the School of Economics of Shanghai University of Finance & Economics, vice chairman of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, former chairman of the Chinese Society of Economic Thought History, and former president of Shanghai University of Finance & Economics. His main research areas are the history of Chinese economic thought and the comparison of Chinese and foreign economic thought. He has won a large number of awards, including the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, and many others for his excellent academic achievement, such as - the first prize of the Excellent Textbook of the Ministry of Finance and the second prize of the Fourth China Book Award for his co-authorship of The History of Chinese Financial Thought, with Professor Hu Jichuang, a famous Chinese economist supervising his doctoral studies.
