The pesticides diazinon, glyphosate and malathion were evaluated at the Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues held in May 2016. This followed a recommendation that they be re-evaluated due to public health concerns identified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

This followed a recommendation that they be re-evaluated due to public health concerns identified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the availability of a number of new studies. The meeting reviewed epidemiological, toxicological and related data in order to establish acceptable daily intakes (ADIs) and acute reference doses (ARfDs) of the pesticides for humans. It also estimated dietary exposures (both short- and long-term) to the pesticides reviewed and performed related dietary risk assessments.
