The aim of this work is to develop a concept for very compact antennas for satellite communications. To achieve this, the receive (Rx) and transmit (Tx) functionality is integrated into a single antenna aperture. The enabling technology is based on substrate integrated waveguides (SIWs), which are analyzed in depth. Beginning with the fundamental SIW properties, modeling and design techniques for components are developed.
Finally, resulting components are combined to an Rx/Tx integrated antenna.
