A must for enthusiasts of war memorabilia, the D-Day Dossier is a fascinating collection of facsimiles of official documents and personal correspondence that combine to provide a truly unique perspective on the Allied landings in France on 6 June 1944. Published in association with the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth to commemorate the 60th anniversary, the pack features an extensive collection of nostalgic souvenirs such as reproductions of the special invasion currency issued to troops, an air-dropped leaflet offering warnings and safety advice to French civilians and a safe conduct pass for POWs air-dropped by the Allies on German lines. A more personal view of the invasion is given in correspondence about the fate of a young British officer, Lieutenant Ray Belcher. There is a facsimile of his last letter to his parents, the dreaded 'Missing In Action' telegram and a letter from his C.O. Lieutenant Beicher died in France on D-Day. Other personal items include the hand-written account of the invasion from Royal Navy Leading Signalman Norman Craft and there is also a charming souvenir photograph of a G.I. from Boston with a little French girl holding British and American flags outside the Palace of Versailles.
Most of the individual items included in the pack also appear in the booklet, helping the dossier to provide a complete and coherent account of the most momentous military operation in history.
