Dietrich Wöhrlin studied music and instrumental teaching in Los Angeles, Berlin, Ghana and Costa Rica. Alongside his activities as a drummer and percussionist, Dietrich has made a name for himself as a teacher and lecturer. He has been holding lectures, seminars and classes at music colleges and schools since 1997, in subjects such as stylistics, pedagogics / methodology / didactics, and body percussion. He is in demand as a workshop leader, band coach, study aid author and composer of pieces and etudes. He has been developing a private, state-recognized academy of world music, the “Global Music Academy” in Berlin, with like-minded colleagues since 2005.
LatinCOMPACT clearly summarizes and simply explains everything you need to know in order to develop your own drum and percussion patterns, and to feel confident within the most important Latin styles. As a student, musician, teacher and lecturer, I have always lacked study aids and teaching materials that could explain the main elements of a subject clearly and simply, while also giving me the chance to study and work with all the facets of the topic. LatinCOMPACT consists almost entirely of this kind of study aid with teaching guidelines that I have developed for my pupils. It is important to me that teachers and pupils do not feel patronized or constantly reduced to playing the same special patterns. My basic principle is that of building blocks. This book shows the many possibilities of Latin music in a compact form and should be used as a stimulus for creative learning and teaching. It’s LatinCOMPACT!
