But first, let’s get into how all this came about, because, honestly, sometimes I can’t believe it myself.

I was born in the middle of the last century in a small town in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. My parents were average middle-class working people, and I was the youngest of four siblings.

Because there were 8 years between my closest sibling and me, and because we lived out in the country next to an abandoned strip mine, and because my parents were always involved in their own swirling marital drama, by the age of 10 I was pretty much alone and on my own.

Living next to that abandoned strip mine was like heaven for a semi-feral boy of that age, so I spent a lot of time there just wandering and exploring and avoiding going home where my mother always had work and chores waiting.

While it may have been fun just running wild, it really didn’t do much for my socialization or maturity, both things that were sorely lacking in me.

My dear wife might say they are still lacking, and she’s probably right, as she tells me she is about most things.

Be that as it may, life went on as it always does, and I grew up, went to college, met my wife who married me in spite of who I was, got a career, a job, a daughter, houses, cars, happiness, tragedy, births, deaths – a life pretty much like any other.

I was raised in a mainline Protestant church and was always a faithful choir member and active in the congregation.

After I got married, our church attendance was sporadic, but my wife and I were as faithful to the church as possible as we moved around and life happened.

As I grew older, my faith and belief in organized religion has changed dramatically to the point that I believe most of the people who today consider themselves to be the strongest believing Christians are so far removed from what Jesus actually came to teach us that if He came and heard what they are saying, He would be dumbfounded.

Organized religion has evolved into a game of power, money, and control, and the dwindling number of church members serve to prove that more and more people are realizing that the true God of the universe is almost unknown to many so-called religious leaders.

This realization came to me about 20 years ago when I was in my early 40’s. I had always felt that there was a little empty space in my heart that I couldn’t name or figure out how to fill.

Then I became aware of a psychic and teacher named Sylvia Browne.

I think I first encountered Sylvia on a segment of the Montel Williams Show, giving amazing readings to members of the audience and delivering messages to them from departed loved ones.

At some point, someone asked Sylvia about the exact feeling I described above, and her answer was that it was a feeling of homesickness for the other side.

Talk about one of Oprah’s A-HA moments! It was like a bell ringing in my head.

All I could think was “that’s it – that’s it!”

And I now know there are no such things as coincidences. I know I was meant to see that show that day to start a journey that would get me to where I am spiritually 20 years later.

I started reading Sylvia’s books and seeing her on TV whenever possible, realizing that she was in tune with the true nature of the universe and that true nature had nothing to do with the fear-based views of organized religion.

I started seeing local psychics, some really good, some mediocre, but all served to reinforce my new beliefs that there is a God that loves us unconditionally, that there is an after-life and we go there when we die without pre-conditions, and that our departed loved ones are already there and still interested in what and how we are doing.

Most especially, that some people have the ability to tune into the vibrations of the other side and actually talk to the people that are there.

Every psychic is an individual and every psychic sees and hears things a little differently, but by observing and reading the works of many psychics, you can see for yourself that they all share the common thread I describe above.

How does this all work?

I like to compare it to different types of wave energy.

Sitting wherever you are reading this book, you are surrounded by radio waves, TV waves, microwaves - all kinds of energy that you don’t see or hear, but only because you don’t have the right kind of receiver in your head to pick them up.

Because the other side is in a different dimension that is actually here but moving at a much higher vibration, most people can’t see or hear it, but people with psychic ability can.

As I said before, all psychics are individuals and so every psychic sees and hears things in their own way.

Personally, I see pictures like they are on TV, and I don’t actually hear voices in my head, but conversations are there telepathically.

I don’t always know who is speaking, but usually I can recognize the voice, or they appear as either a still or moving picture.

Let me also say that no psychic is ever 100% right all the time, for a variety of reasons.

First, as my guide has told me on numerous occasions, when he talks to me, it’s like trying to teach calculus to a 2-year-old.

Our human minds are so limited in understanding that sometimes we just can’t grasp what they are trying to tell us.

The second biggest factor is time.

Time essentially doesn’t exist on the other side, so when they tell us something will happen in six months, it may be six weeks or six years. They just can’t always gauge the concept of linear time.

The third and probably most important thing that might “interfere” with an accurate psychic reading is your own life-plan.

You write a detailed plan for what you want to learn and experience during your current life, but there is always free-will built into the plan, so things can change.

More on that to come.

But to return to my own little saga, when I was 60, which turned out to be a pivotal year in my life, my wife told me she had been seeing a hypnotist/psychic healer for help with a health problem.

My curiosity was piqued – I guess you could say my psychic antennae went up – and I asked her to find out if this psychic did past life regressions.

That was always something I wanted to do plus I thought it would be fun. The answer was yes, so I immediately made an appointment.

My first session started routinely enough.

A past life regressionist uses hypnosis and relaxation techniques to get the subject to a level of consciousness where the subconscious (the place where memories are stored) can be accessed easily.

I got to that level and was directed to a hallway filled with doors, sort of like a hotel hallway, but the doors all opened into rooms that contained the memories of past lives.

I had a few sessions and explored nine past lives that I’ll describe in later chapters, but after viewing that ninth life, the hypnotist was silent for a time and then said “hmmm”, which I’ve come to know means she’s seeing something unusual.

She said she had been told that we would be allowed to see a different dimension.

When I asked what that meant, she said she didn’t know as she had never heard that before.

That got me to say “hmmm”, and without hesitation I said, “Let’s go!”

At the next session, we went through the relaxation techniques and preliminaries as usual, but this time we were met by someone who introduced himself as “Jasper”, who turned out to be my spirit guide.

A spirit guide is someone you know well and trust from the other side who agrees to study your life plan and learn it thoroughly so that while you’re away from home living your earthly life, they can keep tabs on you.

They also can give you help and direction in staying on your plan to achieve the learning goals you’ve set for yourself.

People often say they get a “feeling” about something like taking a new job or moving or even something as simple as not walking or driving down a certain street.

Many people have also said that when they met the person they were going to marry, they “just knew” that this person was the right one.

You can call it intuition, or a gut feeling or any number of things, but that is your spirit guide reading your life plan to your subconscious mind so that you do the right thing to stay on your plan.

Jasper, who I’ve come to know well and love in spite of it, would think he deserves a chapter of his own, if not a whole book!

But he will only be making cameo appearances this time. Since he loves show business so much, he will understand.

Jasper explained that he would be the tour guide on our trip to the “other dimension”.

He led us first through a huge, old-fashioned library which I recognized...
