Create Your Great #youdontgetwhatyouwantyougetwhatyoucreate, was born from the realization that being 'great' or 'greatness' has been reduced to fleeting, tangible, external achievements. When in fact everyone has a unique, specific purpose, and their greatness is directly related to their Creator and the purpose for which He created them. My purpose is to help you understand that your Creator has given you all of the tools that you need to create your greatest existence. However, He has strategically placed them deep within you, and the only way for your greatness to be revealed is... you have to go inside of you to bring it out.

Identity Crisis

An identity crisis is a state in which a person experiences uncertainty about who they really are as it relates to their positioning and /or purpose in life. I emphasize really because, only the one who created us can give us our identity. At some point we have all had an identity crisis. However, as you grow in life and your purpose unfolds, it is important that you move from the position of uncertainty to a place of certainty. This is possible because your identity; the unique characteristics and qualities that make up who you are, was established before you came to be by your Creator; it is why He created you.

Genesis 1:26-27 The Message (MSG)

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature
So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle,
And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
God created human beings; he created them godlike,
Reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female.

What does that even look like, being created in God’s image and in His likeness, reflecting His nature? Well when children are born, they inherently receive some of the characteristics of their parents. Genetically they’ll receive some of their parents’ physical attributes and demeanors, and some, just for being born into certain families will inherit certain rights and privileges. For all intents and purposes, God is a triune being (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), therefore having created us in His image and likeness, we are triune beings as well (body, mind, and spirit). Because we are God’s children, He has given us an inheritance; the promise that His Spirit will reside in us to lead, guide, and comfort us throughout our journey. Additionally, He has given us authority over, and the responsibility of the earth.

If this is the case, if God has really given us all this authority, and we were created with His genetic makeup, why then is there such an identity crisis epidemic? Why aren’t we all just killing It?

I’ll tell you why… because unlike our Creator, whose triune is always perfectly aligned and operating in complete synergy and purpose; we’ve allowed ourselves to be distracted by the shiny, temporary cares of this world, as opposed to the things which hold eternal significance. Also, no one wants to be considered a child, someone who’s incapable of making their own decisions, not even little children. Instead we’d like to be considered individuals who are responsible and mature, with the ability to make our own decisions.

However, to operate under the Fathers authority, which allows us access to what belongs to Him, we must come to Him as children. When we fail to operate in this childlike faith, and we do not use our god given abilities to properly develop and align each part of our being to bring them in sync with one another, we place ourselves in a state of crisis… Identity Crisis.

Mark 10:15 Living Bible (TLB)

15 I tell you as seriously as I know how that anyone who refuses to come to God as a little child will never be allowed into his Kingdom.”

Let’s start by identifying the parts of our being, because you cannot align or develop what you do not acknowledge exists.

I will begin with the body mainly because it’s the most distinguishable and relatable of the triune. Irrespective of the difference in appearance, we all have a body. You, as well as others can see your body, you can feel your body. No one has to tell you that you have a body. When we get hungry, we feed our body. When we get thirsty, we hydrate. When we get tired, we rest our body. In most cases we wash our bodies daily, we don’t wait for our bodies to develop an offensive odor. When we look in the mirror and don’t like what we see; we have the option to exercise our body and become more cognizant of what we put in our body. If our body becomes pained or injured, we visit physicians to have them examine, diagnose, then prescribe a plan of care that will give direction and individualized treatment, in hopes of healing the pain or injury.

Next let’s identify the mind, or intellect. Just like the body we all have a mind, some level of intellect. Your mind is where your thought process is, it is where we decide to do or not to do, the things that we decide to do, or do not do. Most of us learned at an early age that the mind is a terrible thing to waste, meaning what? That if it is at all possible (and in most cases it is), choose to make the decisions that will produce the outcome that you desire. The decisions that we make or don’t make will have a direct impact on the life that will ultimately become the one that we live. Sound decisions come from sound information and lack of information produces poor and or lacking decisions.

Just like our bodies our mind gets hungry and thirsty, we observe it mostly in the inquisitive behavior of infants and toddlers; which oft times gets stifled (or becomes arrested) by the constant “no’s”, and “stop”, and “ah ah” don’t touch that. Of course, it is our responsibility to keep babies safe from harm, however exploration is a method of learning, developing, and understanding appropriate and acceptable behavior. Exploration is also a learning opportunity to discover individual likes and dislikes. Therefore, it is also our responsibility to encourage consistent development and exploration so that children don’t grow into adults who are afraid to explore and try new things. Just like our body, our mind gets tired and needs rest. Just like our body, if we don’t cleanse our mind our thought process can and will stink, and just like our body our mind can become sick; mental illness is not only real but has become extremely prevalent.

“Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad”.

Proverbs 12:25 NKJV

Lastly, let’s identify the spirit. We cannot see our spirit, but just like our body and mind we all have one. Just imagine yourself; the essence of who you are; no physicality’s to see, judge, or be judged.

Go with me for a moment…Close your eyes and TAKE. A. DEEP. BREATH. INHALE DEEPLY (until your lungs are at capacity), AND EXHALE SLOWLY (take about five seconds to release all the air). That is the connectivity with your spirit. Your spirit is your breath and life source, the space and place that allows you to connect with your Creator, your spiritual self. The you that will return to your Creator once your time on this earth is complete.

Genesis 2:7 New King James Version (NKJV)

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Your spirit can also be likened to your heart’s desires or the seat of your compassion. Just like our body and mind our spirit gets hungry and needs to be fed. Just like our body and mind, our spirit gets tired and needs rest, and just like our body and mind our spirit can also become ill. In your spirit resides a longing and a desire that can only be filled by the one who created it.

Here’s the challenge—unlike with our body, it is not as easy for us to decipher when our mind or spirit needs something or when they are not operating at full capacity, because to us it has become our norm. Notice I said “it is not as easy for us to decipher” however other people can see it, in most cases clearly. The thing is, we can only help people or receive help on the level that we are able or willing to help ourselves.

“Water seeks its own level and water rises collectively.” Julia Cameron

If you didn’t eat for a month, and I’m not even talking about proper nutrition, I’m talking about plain ole sustenance, you will become lethargic to say the least. You absolutely should not deprive your body of water for extended periods, because without water, physical death is imminent. However, the average person can go for months or even years without feeding their minds, the number of adults that I’ve heard say “I don’t read”, is stifling. It is even more challenging to take the time to sit still, and quiet yourself to attempt to connect with or strengthen your spirit in this fast-paced world where immediate gratification is not only the norm but is required. Most people that I’ve spoken with on this subject have emphatically said, “I cannot do that”; referencing meditation (engaging in a mental exercise, sitting still and quiet, while concentrating on your breathing for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness). Just as drinking water is not a luxury or an option for your health, neither is spending quiet time with your Creator, it is essential to the wellness of your spiritual being.

It is a well-known fact that our bodies can be transformed physically with proper nutrition and exercise. It is also a fact, just not as well known, that your life can be transformed by the renewing of your mind. What you allow in your mind...
