Londoner Steve McQueen shot to fame in 1999 when he won the prestigious Turner Prize for innovative art. In 2020, the Tate Gallery in London held an exhibition of over a dozen works spanning film, photography and sculpture, including his homage to the African American actor and civil rights activist Paul Robeson. Ranging across the visual arts, to advertising, documentary and drama, McQueen often tackles hard-hitting topics such as discrimination and injustice in powerful, cinematic ways. Jen Francis is a Producer in factual television, a scriptwriter, and a freelance script editor and film reviewer. She wrote the well-received play Ethan’s Bell (2019) and co-created, and wrote the web series phase two, which was shortlisted for the Edinburgh TV Festival New Voices Award. In 2023, a comedy script she co-wrote was longlisted for the Short Comedy TV Sitcom Writing Competition, and she had an original pilot script shortlisted for the Sky Arts Royal Society of Literature Awards in Screenwriting. As a producer, Jen has worked on notable programmes for Sky Arts, Channel 5, Channel 4, and the BBC. Her passion lies in creating a truly representative landscape in British television, both in front of and behind the camera, reflecting the diversity of the audiences who watch it. In the Scene: Steve McQueen, her first book, was commissioned by Supernova Books.
