Written by Solomon Ratt, a renowned language expert and educator whose mother tongue is Woods Cree and whose work has been central in the preservation of the Cree language, mâci-nîhithowîwin / Beginning Woods Cree represents decades of advocacy for accessible language and cultural revitalization.
Solomon Ratt is a retired Associate Professor who worked at First Nations University of Canada for many years. He is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, a survivor of the residential school system, a writer of Cree texts and stories, and a storyteller with many of his storytelling sessions accessible on the Cree Literacy Network (creeliteracy.org).
