In 1961, during the United Nations intervention in the Katanga conflict in the Congo, central Africa, a company of Irish UN troops was forced to surrender to troops loyal to the Katangese Prime Minister Moise Tshombe. The contingent of Irish UN troops sent to protect the Belgian colonists and local population in Jadotville (now called Likasi) were shamefully attacked by those they were sent to protect. This book is their story. Rose Doyle's novels include Kimbay and The Shadow Player - both bestsellers. Trade Names in 2004 was her first non - fiction outing with New Island. A staff journalist at the Irish Times, Dublin, her Uncle, Patrick Quinlan, served with the Irish Defence Forces at the time of Jadotville.
