The Cherokee River of Tears is a true historical story of a Cherokee Native American family's survival during one of the darkest times in American history. The Cherokee people and their leaders were divided on giving up their ancestral lands east of the Mississippi River to migrate west. This decision was forced when President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 that sent the Cherokee people on the devastating journey known as the "e;Trail of Tears."e; There were those that thought that they had no choice but to agree to move. Some wanted to stay and fight for their land. In reality, none of the natives actually wanted to leave their homeland, but knew they could not fight against the United States government and win. The story presented here tells of a lesser-known but equally traumatic route of the Trail of Tears, the River Route of 1834. It recounts the personal life of a Cherokee family during the great historical events of the Cherokee Nation. It also tells of this family's love through generations of overwhelming struggles including almost being exterminated multiple times from hardship and diseases. Ultimately, it is left to just one that survives to tell the story. The Cherokee River of Tears is a true historical story of a Cherokee Native American family's survival during one of the darkest times in American history.
