This second part considers shiftwork, the developmental state changes associated with the ageing process, and circadian variables as important areas of work behaviour research. The contributors examine how poorly-designed work schedules lead to poor workplace performance.
Part II of this two special issue set of Human Performance considers shiftwork, the developmental state changes associated with the aging process, and circadian variables as important areas of work behavior research. The contributors examine how poorly designed work schedules can not only lead to poor workplace performance but can also be hazardous to life and limb. In addition, they explore the well-documented, age-related declines in the state of cognitive functioning and at the same time highlight the puzzling question, "Where are the data for work-related cognitive behaviors?" Finally, some of the literature behind the work in chronobiology is analyzed in an effort to determine how "time of day" can influence performance as well as occupational health and safety.
