Introduction
The world’s biggest problems are the world’s biggest market opportunities. And that’s a huge thing. Solve hunger, literacy and energy problems, get the gratitude of the world, and become a billionaire in the process.
—Peter H. Diamandis
An entrepreneur is an innovator, job creator, game changer, leader, disruptor, adventurer.
—Sir Richard Branson
On September 18, 2006, Anousheh Ansari, an Iranian American engineer and entrepreneur, became the first self-funded female space tourist to fly to the International Space Station. She was forty years old. Seeing planet Earth from far above was a pivotal moment in her life. “I had dreamed of going into outer space ever since I saw photographs of the planet,” she said, “and seeing it in real life was even more majestic and totally worth it, in the sense that it put things into perspective. I think of my personal decisions’ impacts on a global level. That is, in fact, one of the reasons I think more people should go into space; policy makers may be deeply moved by such a powerful experience!”1
Ansari’s space flight inspired her to join the XPRIZE Foundation as its CEO, where she saw a unique opportunity to contribute to developing solutions to some of the world’s toughest challenges. Ansari explained, “We gather problem solvers from all over the world to address the biggest challenges facing humanity and the planet. We look for what’s broken, especially if there are few efforts at repair, and set the sights of innovators, tinkerers, engineers, and builders everywhere on fixing it.”2 Over the years, the XPRIZE Foundation has become the world’s leader in designing and operating incentivized competitions to solve humanity’s great challenges. In turn, it has advanced technological developments in domains such as space, energy, the environment, health, and transportation.
Ansari’s story shows that awareness is the first step toward solutions in our world. When we view issues from a new perspective, we are inspired to go after the big problems. In this book, you are going to meet bold entrepreneurs, innovators, and builders who are “fixing” big problems. As you read, you will become more aware of the state of our world, which problems you want to address, and how to reach radical solutions to those problems. In turn, you will be prepared to build your future and the future of our world.

What Is the State of the World?
The media regularly reports bad news, so the public’s general perception is that the world is in chaos. However, things are actually getting better on many critical fronts. According to the World Bank, in the last decade alone, life expectancy has increased by three years—from seventy to seventy-three. A hundred years ago, it was barely forty. Nearly 60 percent of the world’s population now has access to the internet, and 90 percent has access to electricity. Extreme poverty is declining.
Still, the list of the world’s problems is long. Around 10 percent of the global population still lives in extreme poverty. Harvard Professor Steven Pinker claims that violence in all forms—military conflict, homicide, genocide, torture, criminal justice, maltreatment of children and racial minorities—has also declined dramatically across time and geographies.3 Pinker’s critics, however, disagree. Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a Lebanese American author and former trader, concedes that the rates have declined to historically low values, but he also argues the absolute values have risen over time and that we must consider the actual amount of human suffering.4
Our environment and our well-being are under pressure. Before the end of this century, we will have exhausted virtually all of our mineral reserves. At the time of writing this book, one billion people across the planet have no access to clean water. We are still highly dependent on fossil fuels. Only slightly more than one-fourth of the world’s total electricity is generated from renewable energy sources.
Education and literacy remain major challenges in many poor countries. According to UNESCO, 30 percent of the world’s adults and 20 percent of young people will still be illiterate in 2030 without new solutions.
As we have seen with the COVID-19 crisis, health systems are desperately in need of cures for life-threatening diseases. The World Health Organization reports that diabetes, cancer, and heart disease are collectively responsible for over 70 percent of all deaths worldwide. The “corona crisis” has also made it clear that our supply chains are not as resilient as they should be.
Automation is changing the workplace, putting many of today’s jobs at risk in the very near future. Soon enough, we will have autonomous flying cars, planes, and trucks. Is it not possible to have more automated tasks done by machines and leave the complex ones to qualified workers and technicians?
Amid all these problems, what can we do? What must we do?
Across the world, entrepreneurs and innovators are actively working to solve some of our toughest problems. They imagine radical solutions, “crazy ideas” as I call them, and then set out to materialize them. These innovators provide a model for building a new future.

Why Crazy Ideas?
Many consequential issues like the ones I have described above have yet to be resolved. Attempts to resolve these issues have failed to produce the desired results; they have been too slow to create the impact the world is looking for. There is an urgent need for something radically different. We need unconventional approaches—strategies that may seem bizarre at first. We need crazy ideas!
In this book, you will find stories of superachievers who are materializing crazy ideas today. I focus specifically on super-entrepreneurs, or superpreneurs. They are busy building breakthrough ventures that will impact our daily lives.
By observing and sometimes even working side by side with superpreneurs, I decoded the five secret keys that led to their superachievement. These secrets are the foundation of what I call the CRAZY method.
CRAZY stands for:
- Catapult: catapult your ambition
- Rock-solid: develop a rock-solid plan
- Amazing: build amazing solutions
- Zeitgeist: leverage the zeitgeist
- Yamakasi: adopt a Yamakasi mindset
You will learn how superpreneurs have applied these secrets to achieve amazing results and how you can do the same.

My Experience with Superpreneurs and Crazy Ideas
As an entrepreneur myself, it seemed natural for me to write a book about bold innovators who are materializing their dreams to shape a better world.
I have successfully founded, co-founded, and participated in the launch of multiple companies that have created hundreds of jobs and generated multimillions in revenue. I have thirty years of experience building technology companies in a variety of fields, including the space, entertainment, artificial intelligence, and energy industries.
Out of this experience, I created the Superpreneur Blueprint Framework, a set of cutting-edge strategies and tactics to materialize crazy ideas and build breakthrough ventures to solve the world’s biggest problems.
I love to partner with superpreneurs to create remarkable businesses that have an impact on our daily lives and contribute to creating a world of abundance for future generations. In the past five years, I have coached, mentored, and advised over a hundred technology startups. I have been involved in a number of European startup incubators and accelerators. I also sit on the board of several startup angel associations, and I have served as a judge for many startup competitions like Innovators Under 35 Europe, sponsored by MIT Technology Review.
I am personally involved in one of those breakthrough ventures. I am a co-founder and chief financial officer of Maana Electric, whose mission is to produce affordable solar capacity. We use in situ resources utilization (ISRU) technologies5 for space and automated industrial processes to turn desert sand into solar panels, and we do so at a fraction of the cost of the industry standard. In the long term, Maana Electric aims to be the utility company of the entire solar system by building solar capacity on the moon, Mars, and beyond. We are contributing to a solution to terrestrial environmental problems by reducing the world’s dependence on fossil fuels, and at the same time, we are participating in space exploration—nurturing the hope that humanity will one day become an interplanetary species.
