Brian Cassidy was a Member of the European Parliament for 15 years, initially as MEP for Dorset East and Hampshire West and from June 1994 as MEP for Dorset and East Devon, a new constituency. During that time he concentrated on issues affecting business as a member of both the Legal Affairs and Economic Affairs Committees. Before becoming an MEP, he was Director-General of a trade association and a member of the Council of the CBI. He has had a distinguished career in industry. Beginning in an advertising agency, he subsequently worked for the Beecham Group, Ever Ready and Reed International, the latter for 13 years culminating as European Director of IPC Business Press. In that capacity he was also a member of the Board of a large French publishing company: Cie Europeenne de Publication and of the German business publishing company: Konradin Verlag in Stuttgart.
