Buisness Law In Africa gives a general presentation of the seven Uniform Acts that have been issued to date concerning, respectively, general commercial law, corporate law, bankruptcy, securities, accounting, recovery and enforcement procedures, and arbitration.
The Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) has 16 current member countries. Its principal aim is to establish a modern and accessible system of harmonized business law in Africa - directly applicable in all the member States and which supersedes the previous national legislation on the subject concerned. While influenced to a certain extent by French law, its ambition is to create a truly African system, which will lay down a strong foundation for long-term development on the African continent by providing a secure legal environment for investment and trade. This work gives a general presentation of the seven Uniform Acts that have been issued to date concerning, respectively, general commercial law, corporate law, bankruptcy, securities, accounting, recovery and enforcement procedures, and arbitration. It is intended as a practical guide, which outlines the advantages that this new body of law presents in creating a more secure climate for investment, but which is realistic about any problems that may nevertheless arise.
