New Trends in Methodological Approaches for Fish Biology provides an extensive guide on the novel tools and methodologies that are available to fish biologists across diverse sectors. Research in this area is growing exponentially, reflecting the global economic significance of fisheries and aquaculture industries, fish as model research organisms, and aquatic ecosystem health. This book combines a historical overview of each research area with detailed descriptions of emerging cellular and molecular tools. Written by a globally diverse team of experts, New Trends in Methodological Approaches for Fish Biology is systematically structured for easy navigation by technical and nontechnical audiences. It explores recent advances in fish genomics, nutrition, development, reproduction, health, and welfare. Given the breadth of subject matter, this is an essential resource for students, academic researchers, aquaculturists and fisheries biologists, and resource managers alike.

Dr. Ignacio Fernandez Monzón is a researcher of fish physiology at the Spanish National Research Council’s Institute of Oceanography (CSIC-IEO). He obtained his BSc in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo, his MSc in Aquaculture from the University of Barcelona, and his PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona, Spain. His research employs multidisciplinary techniques, including in vivo and in vitro approaches, histology and immunohistochemistry procedures, live imaging, bioinformatics, and transcriptomic analysis. He is co-author of Elsevier’s Cellular and Molecular Approaches in Fish Biology. Dr. Jorge Manuel de Oliveira Fernandes is a research professor at the Spanish National Research Council’s Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC-ICM). He obtained his BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal, and his PhD in Comparative Immunology from the University of St. Andrews, UK. His research focuses on muscle growth and innate immunity in teleost fishes, with special emphasis on epigenetic regulation of gene networks in commercially important species. He has contributed to six books on this topic, including co-authoring Elsevier’s Cellular and Molecular Approaches in Fish Biology.
