This book provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in understanding and monitoring major diseases affecting wheat, the challenge of fungicide resistance, as well the range of integrated management techniques used to prevent and/or control disease outbreaks.
Wheat is one of the world’s most important crops and is a staple ingredient in the diets of millions of people around the world. However, it’s been estimated that around 20% of global wheat yields are lost to pests and diseases each year. As the agricultural sector faces growing pressure to reduce its reliance on chemical inputs, the development of integrated disease management programmes is gaining momentum as a sustainable alternative.

Advances in integrated wheat disease management provides a comprehensive overview of recent developments in understanding and monitoring major diseases affecting wheat, as well as methods for developing fungal and bacterial disease-resistant wheat varieties. The book also reviews the range of integrated management techniques used to prevent and/or control disease outbreaks, such as the use of bioprotectants, intercropping and crop rotations.

The book builds on a successful earlier volume published by Burleigh Dodds Science: Integrated disease management of wheat and barley (2018).

Dr Stephen Wegulo is a Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Extension Specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. His expertise is in the areas of epidemiology and disease management. Professor Wegulo has authored or co-authored 79 refereed journal papers, six book chapters and collectively more than 500 Extension and other non-refereed publications. He is currently an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Crop Protection and has previously served as an editor of three other refereed journals.
