The programmes were filmed without sound and, apart from the commentary and light cutting, they have been left as they were made. The majority are in black-and-white, though some of the later ones are in colour. The original material was professionally filmed and edited. Machinery enthusiasts will enjoy footage of items ranging from the Marshall combine to the Caby sugar-beet harvester. Altogether there are over fifty machines, split between the two programmes. Experimental prototypes from the NIAE itself are included.

Brian Bell has written 23 books and DVDs on farm machinery and the companies which produced it. He contributes to several magazines and has been awarded the MBE for his services to agriculture. He lives in Suffolk.
