Beginning with a review of types and makes of multi-furrow plough, this work covers ploughing techniques, including headland marking, field procedures and the fine-tuning of adjustments. It also pays attention to the common ploughing faults and how to rectify them. It is intended for those using or interested in commercial ploughs and ploughing.
Modern ploughs and available accessories are shown before we move into the farmyard where ploughman, Keith Williams prepares and adjusts his plough for work. Ploughing techniques including headland marking, field procedures and the fine-tuning of adjustments are covered in detail. Attention is also paid to the common ploughing faults and how to rectify them. The video concludes with film of the British National Ploughing Championships which gives an insight into the skills and precision of match ploughing using both conventional and reversible ploughs. The detailed script is by Brian Bell, with technical advice from Michael Alsop of Dowdeswell Engineering. The programme is narrated by Chris Opperman.

A Norfolk farmer's son, Brian played a key role in developing agricultural education in Suffolk from the 1950s onwards. For many years he was the vice-principal of the Otley Agricultural College having previously headed the agricultural engineering section. He established the annual 'Power in Action' demonstrations in which the latest farm machinery is put through its paces and he campaigned vigorously for improved farm safety, serving for many years on the Suffolk Farm Safety Committee. He is secretary of the Suffolk Farm Machinery Club. In 1993 he retired from Otley College and was created a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to agriculture. He is secretary and past chairman of the East Anglian branch of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers. Brian's writing career began in 1963 with the publication of Farm Machinery in Cassell's 'Farm Books' series. In 1979 Farming Press published a new version of Farm Machinery, which is now in its fourth enlarged edition. Brian's involvement with videos began in 1995 when he compiled and scripted Classic Farm Machinery. Brian Bell writes on farm machinery past and present for Farmers Guide and Tractor & Machinery magazines. Brian lives in Suffolk with his wife Ivy. They have three sons.
