Donna Jones is a shepherdess whose dog Zac is one of several working with a large flock of sheep. By contrast, market researcher, Marion Turner's dog Lynne is kept on a smallholding in the south of England. The skills of the handlers are assessed by Glyn who encourages more positive commands and corrects common faults. He is joined on the programme by the late Eric Halsall, one of Britain's leading writers about sheepdogs and trialling. This is the third of a series of three programmes, the others being: "Come Bye! And Away!" (The early stages of sheepdog training); and "That'll Do!" (Widening the sheepdog's experience and reducing command contact).
H Glyn Jones was born in a smithy near Pwllglas in North Wales. He bought his first dog, Glen, in 1949 and made a decision to train him in a way that would be different from his father's methods, in particular grooming the animal and showing affection. In 1952 Glyn won the Shepherd's Class at the Welsh National with Glen, earning a place to represent Wales at the International Sheepdog Trials that year. Glyn went on to be Welsh National Champion twice with the homebred Bwlch Taff which he reared and trained himself. He has represented Wales in the team for the International Sheepdog Trials fifteen times. He won the coveted International Supreme Championship in 1973 and has been reserve champion twice. He has won the International Farmers Championship and the 'One Man and His Dog' champion of champions brace competition three times, and many other brace, open and nursery championships. His absorption with sheepdog training has taken him from his hill farm at Bodfari in North Wales to trials and training course in Canada, the United States and other countries. His enthusiasm is shared by his wife Beryl who has successfully bred the Bwlch line of border collies.
