"Potentials and Limits of an EcologicaLisation of Agriculture - Sdentific Approaches and Practical Experiences"
In public and political discussions correlated with the change of agricultural policy thinkings on possibilities
for an ecologicalisation of agriculture are in focus. At the bottom these reflections aim to astronger consideration
of natural cycles and to a protection of natural resources within agricultural production. Several national
and international developments focus in this direction. Therefore, this volume contains contributions which
. present scientific work which surveys basic data on several aspects of an ecologicalisation of agricultural
practices and provides data as well as background informations for applied concepts designed for the parctical
farmer. In this respect these approaches are able to give new impetus and to indicate potentials for an
ecologicalisation. This includes
• Statements on environmental effects (e.g. on biodiversity, soil fertility, water quality) of plant production
measures (e.g. conservation tillage, targetted fertilization, non-chemical plant protection, use of resistant
cultivars, extended crop rotations, enhancement of natural enemies) and of landscape management (e.g.
implementation of field margin weed strips, conservation ofadjacent non-cultivated areas in their structure
and function, consideration of the landscape matrix at different scale levels).
• Approaches and problems of the assessment of such measures as well as the control and maintanence of their
success and finally, their integration into the course of farm management.
• Role of genetically modified crop plants within an ecologicalisation of agriculture.
• Environmental problems (e.g. application of copper-containing pesticides) and effects on agro-ecosystems
after different duration of organic production according to the criteria of the EU-regulations and the rules of
the organic growers associations;
• Coexistance of organic and conventional farming within different landscape scale levels - conflicts and potentials.

Das vorliegende Mitteilungsheft ist der feierlichen Verabschiedung von Professor und Direktor Dr. Joachim Müller
in den Ruhestand gewidmet. Dr. Joachim Müller hat das Institut für Nematologie und Wirbeltierkunde der Biologischen
Bundesanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft in Münster seit 1985 geleitet. Am 13. Juni 2006 wurde Dr. Müller
65 Jahre alt, damit endete sein aktives Berufsleben. Als Nematologe hat Dr. Müller sein Fachgebiet in Deutschland
und auch im Ausland entscheidend mitgestaltet. Als Würdigung für seine Verdienste haben Institutsmitarbeiter
und langjährige Kollegen aus dem Kreis der Fachreferenten Nematologie dieses Mitteilungsheft mit wissenschaftlichen
Beiträgen zusammengestellt. Die Übersichtsartikel und Fachveröffentlichungen sind Ausdruck des breiten
Spektrums nematologischer Fragestellungen, die Dr. Müller während seiner Laufbahn begleitet haben. Dies gilt in
ganz besonderem Maße für den Rübenzystennematoden Heterodera schachtii, aber auch für andere Zystennematoden
(Globodera spp., Heterodera spp.) bzw. sonstige Nematoden (Ditylenchus dipsaci). Weitere Arbeitsschwerpunkte
von Dr. Müller, wie die Bewertung der Resistenz von Pflanzen gegen Nematoden und der Einsatz resistenter
und toleranter Kulturpflanzensorten zur Bekämpfung der Nematoden sowie die biologische Bekämpfung von pflanzenparasitären
Nematoden, werden ebenfalls in Beiträgen aufgegriffen. In einem Übersichtsreferat wird schließlich
auf die Bedeutung der Nematoden innerhalb des Fachgebietes wie auch im allgemeinen Leben hingewiesen.
