This publication has been designed according to the syllabus of ICAR, which is followed by most state agricultural universities. Some universities have made minor modifications to the syllabus, but the book remains relevant to students and teachers across various disciplines. It is hoped that this book will meet the needs of those studying and teaching agriculture.
M. Mohamed Amanullah, Professor of Agronomy (Retired) completed B.Sc. (Ag.) at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai, and M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. in Agronomy at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He worked at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, Tamil Nadu for 13 years and at TNAU for 20 years. During this period, apart from teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, he also served as, UG and Research Coordinator. He has conducted 10 training programmes under Centre of Advanced Faculty Training of the ICAR as Course Coordinator. His teaching experience spans for 29 years to UG, PG and Ph.D. degree programmes. He has handled more than fifteen different courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has guided eight M.Sc. (Ag) students and 5 Ph.D. students and one PDF student. He has published ten books with ISBN, 7 books without ISBN, published more than 240 research articles both in international and national journals apart from many popular articles. He has completed for external funded projects and many university research projects. K. Rajendran, completed his U.G, P.G and Ph.D. in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has worked in TNAU as professorfor more than 33 years in different positions covering Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Research Stations involving in teaching, research and extension. He was awarded ICAR Junior Research Fellowshipfor his P.G studies. He also visited International Rice Research Institute Manila Philippines under INSURF Fellowship. He has published more than 35 research articles in reputed peer reviewed journals both nationalas well as international. He has participated and presented research papers in seven international conferences and 10 national seminars covering bt cotton and hybrid rice. He has guided 7 M.Sc. (Agronomy) and 5 Ph.D. students. Currently he is working as Professor & Head of the Division of Agronomy at Karunya University, Coimbatore. S. Marimuthu, completed B.Sc (Agriculture) at Agriculture College and Research Institute, Madurai and PG, Ph. D., degree programmes at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He has published 20 research articles in reputed International and National Journals. He has participated in 5 International and 10 Natioanl conferences and won several awards and also he had guided 3 projects in UG students of B. Sc (Agri.) programme, having 3 years of research and 5 years of teaching experience. He is currently working as Assistant Professor (Agronomy) in SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, India.
