A charming diary of rural life, old culinary traditions and country cooking, and a dream achieved through pure determination and passion.
When Sally Vincent left London for a quiet valley in Devon, she and husband Paul took on far more than a farmhouse renovation. Taken from her successful blog, Raining Sideways charts her rural adventures from townie to fully-fledged farmer, braving extreme weather, blight, sheep rearing and much more in between.
Sally experiences first hand the massive impact of the supermarkets, and highlights the deception of food production and food labelling in the UK. But as she faces the turbulence of the outside world, she turns to her garden for solace, finding light and happiness in nature, animals and her surroundings.
Packed with delicious traditional recipes, comforting tales and beautiful hand-drawn illustrations, this is a charming diary of rural life, old culinary traditions and country cooking, and a dream achieved through pure determination and passion.

Sally Vincent trained at Winkfield Place Cordon Bleu Cookery School, later cooking in London restaurants. She went on to study Jewellery & Enamelling at the Berkshire College of Art and had workshops both in London and South Devon. She then studied Psychotherapy at Plymouth University combining counselling and training and with farming. It was spring 2004 when her son emailed from Japan: ‘Why not write a blog about your real life on the farm: rain, mud, dark cold winter mornings, lambing in the middle of the night, sick animals and the joy of spring’? Thus Raining Sideways was born! This is her first book.
