Motor Learning and Control for Practitioners is designed to provide an applications-based approach to the principles of motor learning and control. The goal of the text is tp prepare future practitioners to be able to design experiences that will maximize their students’, athletes’, clients’, and patients’ skill acquisition and performance potential. The text is particularly intended for students of physical education, coaching, physical and occupational therapy and athletic training.

Dr. Cheryl Coker is an Associate Professor with the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces. She received her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University where she was also a member of the NCAA Championship Women's Track and Field Team. Prior to her appointment at NMSU she earned both her master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Virginia. Dr. Coker has coached at the Division I level in both Track and Field and Strength and Conditioning and continues to consult with several teams. This coaching experience and her experiences as an international competitor in track and field have contributed to her research. She was a co-author of the book Play for Power: Creating Leaders Through Sport and her textbook entitled Motor Learning and Control for Practitioners is due for release in September 2003. Recently, Dr. Coker was presented with the Southwest District AHPERD Honor Award. She received the Donald C. Roush Award for excellence in teaching and was nominated to Who's Who in American Education in both 1998 and 2000. In addition, she received the 2001 Professional Merit Award from the New Mexico Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the 1998 Pathfinder and Presidential Awards from the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport and was elected fellow of the Research Consortium in 2001.
