Alderson says the book will be challenging. He is right! Some will find it discomforting; for others it will be a source of inspiration. He writes with evidence-based conviction "straight from the horse's mouth" using a treasure-chest of documentary evidence, gathered over fifty years and charting the birth and growth of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and Rare Breeds International. His records provide a candid account of the growth-pains of a movement which, as the book reveals, may yet hold the key to the sustainability of our planet. Alderson's unflinching style will provoke debate but his enthusiasm for the world's endangered breeds confirms his global status and permeates a well-illustrated book which will appeal to farmers, smallholders, conservationists and academics.
