Would Joe Carter hold down a starter's job in today's Major Leagues? Could Robbie Alomar be underrated? Was Jose Bautista's bat flip home run actually only the second biggest hit of his career? Andrew Stoeten uses modern statistics to upend the narratives surrounding the team's most beloved stars and least appreciated players.
In the unforgiving light of modern baseball statistics, how do Toronto's legends hold up?

Would Joe Carter be able to hold a starting job in today's Major Leagues? How many millions of dollars would Rance Mulliniks be worth now? Is it possible Hall of Famer Robbie Alomar could be underrated? Is A.J. Burnett one of the greatest pitchers in Toronto Blue Jays history? Was Bautista's bat flip home run actually only the second biggest hit of his career?

In this revisionist history of Blue Jays baseball, sportswriter and contrarian Andrew Stoeten (Drunk Jays Fans, VICE, The Athletic) uses modern stats to answer these questions and others like them -- and finds that today's number-crunching methods completely upend the popular view of some of the team's most beloved stars and least appreciated players. It's a lighthearted (but uncompromising) trip through the Jays' of the past, and a reminder that while our memories may say one thing, the numbers can tell a very different story.

Andrew Stoeten, a lifelong contrarian and Blue Jays fan, has covered Toronto Blue Jays baseball since 2006, beginning as the co-creator of the infamous blog Drunk Jays Fans. He has written about the team for VICE, the Athletic, Toronto Life, the National Post, Baseball Prospectus, and more. He lives in Peterborough, Ontario.
