In order to evaluate the effect of zinc (Zn) and different levels of calcium (Ca) on the productive behavior in the initiation stage and its influence on the occurrence of porcine parakeratosis, two studies and an experiment were carried out. In the first study, the real Zn content was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry of 14 mineral-vitamin samples (national and imported), a comparison was made between the calculated means and those obtained by analysis, and the Ca content was also studied in 5 samples of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), in use in feed mills, and a t-test was applied for the differences between the means. The experiment used 120 castrated male and female pigs 8.59 +- 0.66 kg and 45 days of age, which were distributed in three treatments (T) with nucleus with Zn supply according to the requirement and different levels of CaCO3 , 0.85 % (T I) control, 3.40 % (T II) and 6.80% (T III) of the formula. A completely randomized design was applied.
