This brand new Manual focuses on soft tissue surgery of the head,neck and thorax. Together with its companion volume, the BSAVAManual of Canine and Feline Abdominal Surgery, it highlights forthe veterinary surgeon in general practice the most commonlyperformed techniques. Procedures that are undertaken by thosesurgeons with more experience are also discussed so thatpractitioners can better inform their clients as to clinicaloptions.
The Manual begins with a consideration of general patientassessment and stabilization, anaesthesia and analgesia, andpostoperative care for surgical conditions of the head, neck andthorax. An illustrated description of surgical instruments andmaterials follows.
Chapters on different organs/systems consider relevant anatomy,clinical signs and diagnostics, and medical treatment in additionto surgical techniques. Emergency management of respiratorydistress is described, including instructions on how to perform anemergency tracheostomy. Surgical approaches to the thoracic walland drainage of the thoracic cavity are described in detail andillustrated.
