This book deals with natural gamma radiation in the environment domain. It presents a collective and comprehensive discussion of key topics related to this field. Considering that a significant portion of the radiation dose received by humans originates from gamma radiation, the book compiles research-based information on sources, detection techniques, high- and low-radiation regions, recommended dose limits, and the effects of gamma radiation on agriculture and human health, along with its potential usefulness and associated hazards. The book serves as a valuable reference for policymakers, scientific communities, organizations, and environmental researchers, and is also relevant for individuals concerned about maintaining a healthy life. Furthermore, it synthesizes current research on gamma radiation and highlights its relevance in the context of long-term environmental sustainability.
Dr Pradeep Khyalia has completed his doctoral degree in the Department of Environmental Science, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana, India. He received his M.Sc from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar in 2017. To his achievement he has completed a major project funded by BRNS (Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences), DAE, on water quality analysis and gamma radiation monitoring. To his credit of academics, he is actively contributing book and research articles in peer-reviewed journals. His major area of research includes solid waste management, water quality analysis, soil contamination, monitoring of natural gamma radiation, microplastic analysis and bio-plastic synthesis.
Dr. Manoj Kumar Jindal is an active researcher who holds a PhD in Gamma Radiation (Applied Chemistry) and focuses on interdisciplinary environmental research, particularly in the areas of water and radiation. His research interests include water quality and quantity, sustainability, water chemistry, and environmental gamma radiation. He has over ten years of experience in research and teaching. Currently, he is working as a lead researcher at the Center for Sustainable Drinking Water, IITJ JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission), at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur), Rajasthan, India. Previously, he worked for two years at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, India, and for 3.5 years at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai. He has authored more than 40 research publications in indexed journals and has contributed as an author or editor to seven books, along with numerous book chapters. He also serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and research proposals and is an Editorial Board Member of Discover Sustainability, published by Springer Nature.
Dr Meenakshi Nandal is Professor & Head of Department of Environmental sciences, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana, India. She works as Assistant Professor in Department of Environmental sciences, Maharshi Dayanand University from 2008 to 2020. She has completed her PhD in Biosciences from Maharshi Dayanand University. Many minor and major research projects funded by UGC, Radhakrishanan funds and BRNS (Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences) were completed by her. To widen her academic attainments and credits she has published more than 28 research articles and book chapters in reputed national and international Journals. She is actively engaged in research field and guided many M.Sc. dissertation students and research scholars. Her areas of expertise are solid waste management, water quality analysis, soil contamination, monitoring of natural radiation, air pollution, human health impact etc.
