This is the first book that deals comprehensively with a wide range of topics related to microfabricated electrochemical sensing devices and actuators for microfluidics. The contents include basic principles, materials and fabrication, and applications focusing particularly on devices for liquid samples. This book is a good guide for graduate students, researchers, and engineers who plan to develop new devices and are seeking information from basics to state-of-the-art technology.

Hiroaki Suzuki received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in Applied Physics and Ph.D. degree in Bioelectronics and Biotechnology from The University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1981, 1983, and 1993, respectively. In 1983, he joined Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. as a researcher. In 1996, he moved to the Institute of Materials Science, University of Tsukuba, Japan, as an Associate Professor. In 2004, he became a full-time Professor at the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences and Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences at University of Tsukuba. Since 2024, he has been a Professor Emeritus of University of Tsukuba. From 2016 to 2018, he was the President of the Sensors and Micromachines Society in the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ). From 2019 to 2021, he was the President of the Japan Society of Chemical Sensors. Currently, he is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a fellow of IEEJ. Fumihiro Sassa received his B.E. degree in Engineering Systems and M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science from University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 2006, 2008, and 2011, respectively. In 2011, he joined NTT Laboratories as a researcher. In 2013, he moved to University of Tsukuba, and in 2014, to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2016, he joined the Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering at Kyushu University, Japan, as an Assistant Professor. Since 2022, he has been an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering at Kyushu University.
