Professor Kamali is a Distinguished Professor and the Director of the Green Energy and Environmental Materials Research Centre (E2MC) at Northeastern University. He also directs the China–UK Joint Research Centre for Advanced Materials, and serves as a supervisor at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, for the EnterpriseTECH programme. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the founding director of four materials technology companies focused on commercialising his clean-technology inventions for the sustainable production of advanced materials and the recycling and upcycling of waste materials for high-performance applications, including energy storage and environmental protection. His research has generated more than 50 patents, licensed to leading companies worldwide, and over 200 publications in prestigious scientific journals. He has been recognised as a Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS, placing him among the top 0.5% of scholars globally for his contributions to molten salt research and nanostructures. Professor Kamali has collaborated with major industry partners, including Morgan Advanced Materials, Element Six, Nexeon, Applied Graphene Materials, ArcelorMittal and Renault, among others. He has delivered over 60 invited lectures at national and international events and has received numerous awards, such as the NSFC Excellent International Scientist Fellowship, the International Khwarizmi Award, the Rose Award of Shenyang, and the Armourers and Brasiers Award. He currently chairs the AiScholar Academic Committee and supervises graduate and postdoctoral researchers in China and the UK. He also serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and on national grant review panels, including as a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College. Professor Kumar obtained his PhD from McMaster University and his B.Tech (Hons) from IIT Bombay. He is the Distinguished Research Professor and Head of the Materials Chemistry Group, and an Emeritus Fellow of Trinity Hall at the University of Cambridge. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Energy; the Institute of Materials, Mining and Metallurgy; the Royal Society of Chemistry; and the International Association of Advanced Materials. He has supervised over 50 PhD students, more than 50 postdoctoral researchers, and hosted more than 35 visiting scientists from various countries. He has published more than 380 research papers, over 25 chapters in handbooks, more than 20 patents, and two edited books on batteries (VCH-Verlag). He has been invited as a plenary lecturer at more than 35 international conferences and seminars, and as a keynote or invited lecturer at more than 50 conferences and seminars. He is an Honorary Professor at six overseas universities and has received an Honorary Engineering Degree from the University of Malaysia. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy (Sage) and Battery Materials (Pivot Sciences). He is also a Board Member of IOM3’s Technical Division and an Advisory Board Member of TECHMET Ltd, London, and the Korea National Lithium Research Centre. Many of his research outputs have led to technology licences and industrial implementation, and he has contributed to founding four start-up companies commercialising his inventions.
