This open access book takes the common bedding rock slopes in engineering practice of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area as the research object. The book adopts a research system of in-site investigation, equipment development, experimental exploration, theoretical construction and numerical development, with detailed information, rich content and evidence-based arguments. The relevant research achievements can lay a theoretical foundation and provide scientific basis for solving the key scientific problems behind the prevention and control technologies of the disasters of the bedding rock slopes. Researchers and engineers in the field of slope engineering and seismic engineering can benefit from the book.

Xinrong Liu is a famous professor at Chongqing University, China. He is a doctoral supervisor and an expert who enjoys special allowances from the State Council. He is currently the executive deputy director of the National Joint Engineering Research Center of Geohazards Prevention in the Reservoir Areas (Chongqing University), and also serves as the member of the standing committee of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, the standing director of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering, the chairman of the Chongqing Society for Rock Mechanics and Geotechnique, and the editor in chief of the Chinese Journal of Underground Space and Engineering. He mainly engages in teaching and research work in the fields of geotechnical engineering disaster mechanism and prevention technology, tunnel and underground engineering stability, and urban underground space development and utilization. He was selected as a national candidate for the new century millions of talents project in 2009. He was appointed as a second level professor in 2011. He was selected as an outstanding scientist in Chongqing in 2022. He is the head of the national excellent course in engineering geology (online). In recent years, he has led or participated in over 30 national or provincial-level scientific research projects. He has won 2 second prizes and 1 third prize of national science and technology progress award, 3 first prizes and 8 second prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology progress award. He has obtained more than 30 national patent authorizations, edited 1 local standard guide, participated in the compilation of 2 industry standards and 1 local standard, published 8 monographs, edited 5 textbooks, participated in the compilation of 5 textbooks, and published more than 300 academic papers as the first (second) author or corresponding author (including more than 100 SCI indexed papers and more than 200 EI indexed papers). He was awarded the "Commemorative Medal for Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China". Up to now, he has trained over 150 master's, doctoral, or postdoctoral students.   Bin Xu is a lecture (post-doctor) at Chongqing Jiaotong University, China. He obtained PhD in 2022 from Chongqing University, China. His current research interests include the damage mechanism of the rock joints and the dynamic stability of the rock slope. He is a graduate student instructor, a key member of the Chongqing smart water conservancy graduate supervisor team, a commissioner of the Youth Work Committee of the Chongqing Society for Rock Mechanics and Geotechnique, and a expert in national graduate education evaluation and monitoring. He serves as a reviewer or a young editorial board member for several academic journals. In recent years, he has led nearly 10 national or provincial level scientific projects. He has published or accepted over 40 academic papers in high-level domestic and international journals. He has authorized or published or certified over 20 national patents or software copyrights. He has won the third prize of the science and technology progress award of the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams in 2024, the second prize of the Chongqing science and technology progress award in 2023, the third prize for excellent paper at the Sichuan - Chongqing science and technology academic conference in 2023, and the top paper award of Chinese excellent science and technology journal in 2022.

In-situ investigation and analysis.- Mechanical behaviours of fatigue damage of the rock joints under pre-peak cyclic shear loading.- New algorithm for the dynamic stability of the BRS considering strength degradation of the rock joints.- Dynamic response rules and damage mechanism of the BRS under deterioration of rock mass in the HB.- Sensitivity of factors affecting the dynamic stability of the BRS considering deterioration of rock mass in the HB.
