Museums today are more than custodians of the past—they are active spaces where history, identity, and memory intersect. This book explores how contemporary museums navigate social change, technological innovation, and evolving cultural narratives. Through a diverse range of essays, scholars examine themes of place-based identity, community engagement, and the impact of digital transformation on museum practices. Case studies include house-museums, national memorials, industrial museums, mobile museum initiatives, and virtual heritage spaces in the Metaverse, offering insights into how institutions foster inclusivity, representation, and heritage preservation. Essential reading for museum professionals, cultural historians, and scholars of memory studies, this volume provides a timely reflection on the evolving role of museums as spaces of dialogue, learning, and social change.

Jitka Cirklová is an assistant professor at the Czech Technical University in Prague. She specializes in the sociology of cultural institutions, heritage studies, and memory research, exploring how museums and memorials function as dynamic spaces shaping collective identity and historical narratives. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates art-based research, netnography, and visual content analysis to examine contemporary museum practices. Her previous research has focused on the intersection of landscape formation and sacred geometry, analyzing how Baroque religious architecture integrates symbolic cosmology into spatial design. Another key study examined the transformation of war and conflict memorials, advocating for participatory and living narratives that actively engage local communities in the interpretation of historical trauma. She has also explored the contemporary significance of religious symbols imagination among young generation, using AI-generated visual content to analyze shifting theological perceptions in digital culture. In addition, her research on digital heritage investigates the challenges and potentials of using virtual and augmented reality in museum spaces, assessing their impact on visitor engagement and historical authenticity. She is the co-author of Traditions Through Time: The Radiant Intangible Heritage of Czech Culture (2024) and has published extensively in leading academic journals. Her current research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies, community engagement, and sustainable heritage practices.
