It starts with an overview of plastic material fundamentals. Each section includes material considerations associated with the injection molding process. For example, the molecular weight section shows that use of lower molecular weight plastics are commonly used for the injection molding to minimize orientation, reduce fill time, improve knit line strength. The machine components and component selection for a given application are next considered in more detail.

Dr. Robert Malloy is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Plastics Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He is an active researcher and consultant in the areas of plastics processing, design, and recycling. Dr. Malloy is the author of many publications and patents, including a textbook on the subject of plastic part design. Prior to joining the faculty at Lowell, he was an instructor at the Algerian Petroleum Institute in Annaba, Algeria.
