Nanomaterials in Membrane and Advanced Material Technologies: Innovations and Applications explores the combination of membranes with the unique properties of nanomaterials, providing a clear and detailed look at the advancements, challenges, and potential uses of this technology in various industries. Starting with a foundational introduction, the book reviews the fundamentals of membrane technology and the properties of nanomaterials, from carbon-based and metallic nanoparticles to polymeric and hybrid structures. It then discusses the fabrication and characterization techniques of nanomaterial-enhanced membranes, followed by a thorough analysis of their roles in different filtration processes such as microfiltration, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, gas separation, and electro-membrane processes. The book also looks at the environmental impacts, safety concerns, and regulatory issues related to these technologies, ensuring a full understanding of their impact. This is an essential resource for researchers, materials scientists, engineers, and professionals in the fields of membrane technology, environmental science, and sustainability.

Dr. Fatma Yalcinkaya is an Associate Professor and Researcher at the Centre for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technology, and Innovations, Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic. Her research interests include electrospinning system, functional nanofibers and nano yarns, surface modified nanofibrous composite materials, nanofibers for cosmetics, wastewater treatments, HEPA filters, microfiltration and membrane distillation. Dr. Anna Siekierka is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at The Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Wroclaw, Poland. She received her PhD (2019) from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, in the Chemical Engineering discipline. Her research interests include electro-membrane processes like hybrid capacitive deionization, electrodialysis, capacitive mixing, and reverse electrodialysis for selective separation of metal ions from primary and secondary sources of lithium, as well as the development of selective materials like sorbents and ion-exchange membranes. Dr. Rafael Omar Torres Mendieta is an Assistant Professor and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies, and Innovation at the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, where he established and led the dynamic FEMTO-NANO group dedicated to utilizing lasers for customizing nanomaterials across various applications, from environmental remediation to smart fluid engineering. After completing his Ph.D. (2016) at the Department of Physics, University Jaume I, Spain, he developed a keen interest in membrane technology, particularly in enhancing microfiltration membranes through nanoscale modifications and incorporating laser-synthesized nanomaterials. His research in this area aims to imbue membranes with appealing properties, such as catalytic pollutant degradation, adjustable wettability, and antibacterial properties, among others.
