Sustainable Biogas Production: Transforming Waste into Energy and Fertilizers is a comprehensive guide to managing digestate from biogas plants, with a focus on renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. Grounded in the principles of circular economy, the book explains the technological foundations and treatment technologies, supported by sustainability assessments and global case studies. The book begins with an introduction to biogas technology, providing an overview of biogas production, its historical context, evolution, and its role in sustainable waste management. It then delves into the principles of biogas production, explaining the types of organic waste suitable for biogas production, the anaerobic digestion process, and the factors influencing biogas yield. The book also discusses the efficacy and application of biogas fertilizers, presents global case studies on biogas projects, and provides an overview of the sustainability and economic viability of biogas production. It concludes with a discussion on the policy and regulatory framework for biogas production, including future outlooks on policy trends and their implications for the biogas industry. Sustainable Biogas Production: Transforming Waste into Energy and Fertilizers is an essential resource for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers working on biogas production, and will be of interest to those working more broadly across the bioenergy industry and environmental science.

A full professor since 2012, Katarzyna Chojnacka Ph.D., Dr.Sc. has published over 350 papers, including 200 papers in world-known peer-reviewed scientific journals from JCR list, among them majority devoted to biosorption. She has participated in many international and national conferences as invited plenary speaker and received numerous awards. She is currently the head of Chemical Laboratory of Multielemental Analyses certified by Polish Centre for Accreditation and ILAC MRA for PN-EN ISO which specializes in determination of trace elements in environmental and biological samples, as well as in commercial products. She is the author of 30 patents and implementation of fertilizer products with trace elements to the market. For many years, she has been an expert for the National Science Centre (Poland) and The National Centre for Research and Development (Poland) Dawid Skrzypczak is a distinguished professional in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He earned his B.S. (2016), M.S. (2017), and Ph.D. (2021), all in Chemical Engineering, from the same institution. After obtaining his doctorate, he continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow, focusing on the valorization of waste biomass for fertilization and feed purposes, recovery of fertilizer nutrients from waste materials, hydrogel materials, seed coating, biosorption process, and analytical methods. Dawid has also gained valuable industry experience as a process design engineer at various institutions. He has participated in several internships and training programs, including the Erasmus+ Mobility Agreement at the İzmir Institute of Technology, Turkey, and the National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering. His work on waste biomass valorization and nutrient recovery has been recognized with several prestigious grants, fellowships, and awards. With over 15 years of experience in the field, Dawid has made significant contributions to the field of Chemical Engineering.
