Fundamentals and Advances in Sustainable Energy Processes and Applications offers a holistic approach to sustainable energy, covering the fundamentals of production, storage, and deployment, as well as new technologies and innovations, environmental issues, economic factors, energy transition, non-conventional energy resources, new opportunities, and future perspectives. The book begins by providing an overview of sustainable energy resources, introducing solar, wave, wind, nuclear, and geothermal power. The second part of the book focuses on emerging bioenergy and agroenergy production technologies, discussing biofuels, biorefinery, agroenergy, bioenergy production technologies, bioenergy via fermentation, and biogas.

A final section addresses cross-cutting technologies and energy resources, with information on AI for sustainable energy, carbon capture, synfuels, carbon-free hydrogen, techno-economic analysis, and opportunities in rural areas. Part of the Elsevier Renewable Energy Fundamentals Book Series, this volume supports all those looking to gain a basic understanding of sustainable energy processes and systems, including students, graduates, junior engineers, technicians, R&D personnel, scientists, policy makers, and other professionals with an interest in clean energy and the energy sector.

Lina María Grajales Agudelo is Assistant Professor IV at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) in Brazil. She is part of the undergraduate course in Food Engineering and the Graduate Program in Digital Agroenergy, and works on the development of bioreactors for solid-state fermentation aimed at producing biofuels using agro-industrial residues as substrates. Dr. Grajales Agudelo is the Coordinator of the Support Group for Foreigners (GAE) and the leader of the "Bioreactor Engineering" (GeBio) Research Group at the same university. She is a chemical engineer who graduated from the National University of Colombia (UNAL) and holds a master's and doctoral degree in Engineering and Food Science respectively, both from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. Her dissertation and thesis focused on the development of rotary drum bioreactors for solid-state fermentation. She co-edited a book on Agroenergy with Elsevier, which published in 2023. Dr. Hailei Wang is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Utah State University in the United States, and Director of the Energy Technology Research & Innovation (eTRI) Lab. He has broad research expertise in heat transfer and advanced energy system modeling. His work has been funded by various US federal agencies including the NRC, DOD, and several DOE offices such as the Office of Nuclear Energy, Solar Energy Technology Office, ARPA-E, the Building Technology Office, and the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Program. His energy system research and thermal modeling work has also been supported by various corporations including Cummins, Medtronic, Thermo Fisher, and NuScale Power. Dr. Wang has published over 60 journal and conference papers, and holds 3 granted patents as well as multiple patent applications.
