Dr. Kuriyama retired The University of Tokyo, when he reached retirement age. He was a professor of Department of Systems Innovation, School of Engineering. His main fields are 1) technologies and theory on metal forming, 2) maintenance of infrastructure, and 3) evaluation of acute fatigue (for fire-fighters) applying his knowledge and experience on materials, structure, and systems. Until August 2013 he worked for the center for Risk Management and Safety Sciences of Yokohama National University as a professor. He was responsible for Infrastructure safety. Prior to the work for Yokohama National University, until March 2011, Kuriyama worked for Nippon Steel Corporation. He was the head of Forming Technologies R&D center in NSC (Nippon Steel Corporation) with responsibility of forming technologies, structural design/analysis and evaluation of material properties and their modeling. After getting a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tokyo, he joined NSC in 1977 starting with research on fracture mechanics in Research Center. After holding several positions in Nagoya Steel Works, he moved to Steel Research Laboratories in 1991. Dr. Kuriyama has been the leader of projects on Structural design and Crashworthiness, on Stamping and on Tube Hydroforming. He was a technical committee member of a series of Ultra Light Steel Auto Body projects by International Iron and Steel Institute / World Steel Association. He was a vice chairman of World Auto Steel. Dr. Kuriyama earned a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2001. Dr. Shirayori graduated from the Graduate School of Utsunomiya University in 1992 and joined Hitachi Ltd., where he engaged in research on plastic forming. In 1995, he became a faculty member at Utsunomiya University, and he currently serves as an associate professor of School of Engineering. Dr. Shirayori studied under Professor Fuchizawa, a pioneer in tube hydroforming, and has become the successor and a leading expert in this field. He has received three academic awards for his work in tube hydroforming. He earned his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the Utsunomiya University in 2007. Dr. Utsumi graduated from the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology Graduate School in 1992. He worked in mechanical design at Amada Co., Ltd., and in metal forming development, especially forging and rotary forming, at Aisin AW and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. He moved to Hiroshima Kokusai Gakuin University in 2001, Saitama University in 2009, then Daido University in 2024. He has been engaged in research on tube bending technology at three universities. He earned his doctorate from Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology Graduate School in 2001, based on his research in bending. Dr. Mizumura graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1986 and joined Nippon Steel. He conducted research in tube forming in the research division until 1994, after which he moved to the tube manufacturing division. In 1998, he returned to the research division, where he worked on sheet metal forming and tube forming. During this time, in addition to fundamental research in metal forming, he contributed to the development of many realworld parts. In 2020, he was appointed as a professor at National Institute of Technology, Kure College, where he continues his research, primarily on tube forming. He received academic awards for tube forming in 2004 and 2014. Dr. Mizumura earned his doctorate from the University of Tokyo in 2006, based on his research in tube hydroforming.
