This book is a modern, comprehensive manual for fuel handling, quality control, problem-solving, and remediation methods. An international collaborative effort of experts from many fields, it provides operational insight and a wealth of technical and practical knowledge.

Aviation Fuel Problems and Solutions includes chapters on numerous issues fuel engineers face using the "well-to-wheel" approach, including;

  • the effect of crude oil on fuel quality;
  • refinery/distribution additives;
  • issues that can arise during storage and transportation, pumping and filtration;
  • typical challenges in military applications;
  • laboratory methods for investigations;
  • contamination and compatibility research; and
  • aerospace fuel systems failure analysis.

 In addition, a specific section is dedicated to modern sustainable aviation fuel approval and processes as the industry

Dr Moshe Rabaev is the Head of the Fuel and Chemistry Department in the Israeli Air Force. In 2016, he obtained his PhD in the field of catalysts and processes for converting vegetable oils to jet fuel. On a volunteer basis, he serves as a chairman of the Central Committee for Chemical Standards, including technical committees of fuels, in the Standards Institution of Israel. Dr Rabaev has led the editing process of three books, collaborating with leading professionals from Israeli academia and industry, which were published in Hebrew by the Israeli Institute of Energy and Environment.

Dr Joanna Bauldreay is an independent consultant advising on jet fuels, with a PhD in physical chemistry and post-doctoral experience in electrochemistry.  She joined Shell Research Limited's colloid and surface science group and later moved into middle distillate fuels research, mainly working on the development of aviation turbine fuels and supporting customers, within andoutside Shell, with product quality challenges.  She has held roles in numerous fuel and aviation fuel committees for over 25 years and continues to chair the Coordinating Research Council Aviation Fuel committee's Emerging Fuels group.

Dr Raj Shah gained his PhD from Pennsylvania State University in 1995. He is currently Director at the Koehler Instrument Company, overseeing the R & D, Sales, Marketing, Technical Services and External Research teams. He has decades of industry experience, as well as acting as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University for five years. He's a member of numerous boards, and has chaired or cochaired several conferences.

Dr Frederick J. Passman gained his PhD from University of New Hampshire. He has worked in numerous industry and research positions, including his current role as President of Biodeterioration Control Associates. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including as vice-chair and chair of several committees. He has published over 70 articles and book chapters.
