The book addresses the key aspects of floating PV in turn, with chapters focusing on system design and structure, performance, modelling and simulations, reliability and monitoring systems, economic analysis, and environmental impact. Throughout the book, there is a focus on the challenges and opportunities in floating PV systems, and all types of FPV systems are considered, with analysis of differences and similarities between onshore and offshore technologies.

Dr. Sara Golroodbari is a Postdoctoral Researcher based at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. A solar specialist with an electrical engineering background, she has been working on floating PV systems, conducting her research during her Ph.D. on offshore floating PV in the North Sea, and working on system design, modelling and simulation of floating PV systems and comparison of these systems with land based PV systems. Dr. Golroodbari has experience in collaborating with industrial parties for offshore PV monitoring system design and also designed a smart PV module to mitigate partial shading conditions with a fast response. She was the science communication manager of Cost Action Pearl PV from 2020 until the action finished in 2022. She was also the “Grand Cru Award winner for the best Dutch presentation in the field of Solar Energy in 2019. Prof. Dr. Wilfried van Sark is “Integration of Photovoltaics full professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. He is an experimental physicist by training (MSc/PhD) and has 40 years of experience in the field of photovoltaics. His current activities focus on employing spectrum conversion to increase solar cell conversion efficiency for next-generation photovoltaic energy converters such as luminescent solar concentrators, as well as performance analysis of building-integrated and standard PV systems in the field. He is member of the International Solar Energy Society, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and member of scientific committees of various EU and IEEE PV conferences. He is currently national representative in the International Energy Agency (IEA) PVPS Task 13 (PV Performance, Operation and Reliability of Photovoltaic Systems) and Task 16 (Solar Resource for High Penetration and Large Scale Applications).
