In addition to ordinary scattering processes due to Thomson scattering, this book explains resonant scattering in detail, discusses the phase problems using resonant scattering, and derives a dynamic diffraction theory that treats it equivalently to Thomson scattering. The characteristics of dynamical diffraction due to resonant scattering and its experimental verification are explained. The effect of anomalous transmission in resonant dynamical diffraction, which greatly reduces the absorption coefficient, are discussed along with its important applications. For example, under anomalous transmission conditions, the trajectory of an X-ray in a slightly curved parallel plate crystal becomes parabolic. By confining this X-ray within a thin crystal, a waveguide can be formed that allows the X-ray to propagate long distances within the crystal.
Tomoe Fukamachi is a professor emeritus at the Saitama Institute of Technology in Japan and a visiting professor at Anhui University in China. He has been awarded for his work by the Crystallographic Society of Japan. The specific area of his work mainly covers theory and experiments on resonant scattering dynamical diffraction, and the analysis of different types of interference fringes (e.g., X-ray mirage fringes) produced by X-ray beams propagating through slightly curved thin crystals (X-ray waveguides). Takaaki Kawamura is a professor emeritus at the University of Yamanashi and a researcher at the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, and Tokyo Denki University. The specific area of his work mainly covers dynamical theory or multiple scattering theory of X-ray diffraction as well as electron diffraction; the phase problem in the field of diffraction including using oversampling approach; simulation studies of molecular beam epitaxy; and crystal growth.
