Helsinki is among the European cities that have undergone profound transformation in recent years. This third edition of the architectural guide offers a comprehensive record of these changes. While central districts have largely retained their historic character, peripheral areas have been reshaped through the conversion of former industrial and harbour sites into new residential and commercial quarters.

Featuring 210 buildings designed since Finland’s independence from Russia in 1917, the guide is organised chronologically, allowing readers to trace architectural developments and stylistic shifts over time. Two introductory essays provide architectural history and urban-planning context, while profiles of Finnish architects offer insight into the key figures who have shaped the city’s built environment. Owing to its close proximity, selected buildings in Espoo are also included.

Extensive maps, QR codes for precise location details, and up-to-date aerial photographs make this guide an indispensable companion for exploring one of northern Europe’s leading centres of architectural culture and design.
