This book showcases the latest research and developments in science, engineering, and emerging green technologies that impact sustainable development in manufacturing and industrial processing engineering, particularly in developing countries. It covers a wide range of topics including machinery fault diagnosis, biomechanics, food processing and preservation, engineering properties, fermentation, pretreatment technologies, biopesticides, extraction, treatment of water hyacinth, flood vulnerability, surface water quality assessment, and emerging technologies related to manufacturing, process, sustainable infrastructure, and water resource engineering. It is aimed at researchers, engineers, industry professionals, graduate students, and practitioners looking for cutting-edge research on sustainability and sustainable industrial development.
Metadel Kassahun Abera, Ph.D, is an associate professor of chemical and Biochemical engineering at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He received his Ph.D. from KULeuven, Belgium, in 2014, an MS(R) in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology from India Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2007, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Bahir Dar University in 2004. Dr. Abera's primary duties as an associate professor are teaching and advising graduate students and participating in research and community-based projects. He is currently supervising and co-supervising 10 Ph.D. students, and has supervised and is supervising more than 20 MSc students. His research areas include modeling and postharvest handling of perishables, value addition of agriculture crops, and design, processing, and optimization of products. He has published over 40 papers in high-impact, reputable journals and conference proceedings. In addition to teaching and research activities, he has served in different administrative roles at Bahir Dar University, including faculty dean and department head. Notably, he has lead the accreditation process of the Chemical Engineering undergraduate program by the American Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) successfully as the dean of the Faculty
Muluken Temesgen, Ph.D, serves as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University. He earned his Ph.D. in 2022 from this esteemed institution, where he also completed his M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Engineering and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. In his role, Dr. Muluken teaches and mentors graduate students, while also engaging in impactful research and community initiatives. His research focuses on hydrokinetic turbines, computational studies of wind turbines, solar engineering, and simulations of solid-fluid interactions using OpenFOAM. With over 15 publications in high-impact journals and conference proceedings, he has made significant contributions to his field. Beyond teaching and research, he has taken on various administrative responsibilities, including serving as Research Director and chair holder for small-scale wind and hydro turbines research units. Additionally, he actively participates in community-oriented professional activities, which include manuscript reviewing, organizing conferences, editing academic books, and offering training and consultancy services
Ahmed Abide Tadesse, Ph.D, is currently the Chair of Industrial Design and Management Science under the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Bahir Dar University in 2010 and began working there as a Graduate Assistant. In 2012, he was promoted to Assistant Lecturer and later to Lecturer after completing a Master s degree in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Production Engineering and Management, in 2015. In 2017, he started a Ph.D. program in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Bahir Dar University. Two years later, he joined a dual degree Ph.D. program in Industrial Management at NTUST, Taiwan, under the supervision of Prof. Kung-Jeng Wang and Prof. Chiuhsiang Joe Lin. completing it in December 2023. He presented his dissertation at Bahir Dar University on January 2025. Dr. Ahmed&rsquo
