Photochemical Splitting of Water: Fundamentals to Applications brings together information on photochemical water splitting for hydrogen production, covering basic concepts, mechanisms, instrumentation, experimental set-up, analysis, materials used as catalysts, innovative methods, and future opportunities. The book introduces the role of water splitting and hydrogen production in the current and future global energy mix and provides a basic understanding of the theories behind photochemical water splitting, instrumentation, experimental set-up, and the criteria for materials selection. Other sections offers thorough coverage of the use of specific cutting-edge active materials in photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic water splitting processes, discussing recent advances and future opportunities.

The final chapters of the book focus on challenges, emerging trends, and key opportunities for the future, including tandem approaches that combine a solar cell with a suitably formulated water splitting cell. A glossary of technical terms is also included, providing a clear explanation of the main concepts.

Dr. Soney C. George is Dean of Research and Director of the Center for Nanoscience and Technology at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kottayam, India. He has published 240 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has also edited and contributed to several books. His research focuses on polymer nanocomposites, tribology of nanocomposites, membranes, and pervaporation. Dr. Sajith Kurian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Mar Ivanios College (Autonomous), Kerala, India. Dr. Luís P. M. Santos is a Postdoctoral Researcher, affiliated to the Graduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering at the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil. He has experience in the synthesis of nanomaterials, materials characterization, and electrocatalysis for H2 generation.
