This book delves into the innovative realm of wound core transformers designed for high-voltage power grids, moving beyond the traditional laminated core structures prone to magnetic flux leakage and energy dissipation. Through a novel enclosed wound core design that eliminates joints and corners, it presents a transformative approach that minimizes leakage and enhances the electromagnetic performance of transformers. This book not only addresses the technical challenges and solutions in transformer design but also marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of energy efficiency and performance optimization in electrical power systems. Targeting a specialized audience of professors, scholars, and graduate students engaged in transformer energy-saving optimization and related research fields, it offers an in-depth exploration of the complete loss calculation, innovative manufacturing processes, and testing technologies of large-scale wound core transformers.

Shibin Gao was born in Hubei, China, in 1964. He received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China, in 1986, 1999, and 2004, respectively. He has been a professor at the College of Electrical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, since 1998. His current research interests include relay protection and control of electric traction systems. Lijun Zhou (member, IEEE) received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China, in 2001, 2004, and 2007, respectively. Since 2011, he has been a professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University. His main research interests include the multifield analysis and optimized design of electromagnetic–thermal for electrical equipment, intelligent diagnosing technology for electrical equipment, and the overvoltage protection for power systems. Chenqingyu Zhang was born in Sichuan, China, in 1991. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu, China, in 2014, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China, in 2022. His current research interests include electric traction systems, transformer modeling, and electromagnetic analysis.
