This interesting new volume discusses a revolutionary new digital signal processing technique used for modem design that is based on the so-called "turbo principle" and, although more complex than a conventional implementation, provides substantial improvement in the sensitivity of the receiver. Specifically it is a receiver algorithm approach, which can reduce interference and therefore substantially improve the performance of the receiver design. This improvement can be seen, for example, in wireless systems as either longer battery life for mobiles, longer range for mobiles, the ability of the system to support more users, or lower costs for the operator for the same service provision, enabling the reader to fully understand the design approach and proceed further with their own designs.
This book: * Provides a fundamental understanding of how to design and analyse efficient receivers * Describes how to use the "turbo principle" to mitigate interference and what the key design steps are * Features practical system examples to reinforce the underlying principle and the application of this technique * Enables the reader to apply the technique to a multitude of new real-world problems and system configurations, including systems that use antenna arrays, direct-sequence code division multiple-access (DS/CDMA), continuous phase modulation (CPM), intersymbol interference (ISI) channels and much more.
