This book explores the preservation of the urban historical environment. More specifically, the topics explored include: improving methods for calculating building structures, strengthening them and assessing their suitability for use; improving construction technology; geotechnics; energy efficiency of enclosed structures and energy systems; the introduction of new structures and materials; and economic evaluation of construction. The book details the developments in geotechnical engineering of pile structures (including piles with multiple extensions) made possible by discharge-pulse technology. Particular attention is also paid to monitoring unique buildings and structures. Researchers of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Chuvash State University, Russia, are currently implementing the findings of the present work at many famous sites in Russia.

Alexey Nikolaevich Plotnikov graduated from the construction department of the Chuvash State University, Russia, where he has also been teaching courses in building structures since 1986. In 2013, he received a degree from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering. From 2014 to 2018, he was Head of the Department of Building Structures of Chuvash State University. Currently, he is Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and an assistant professor of building structures at the same institution. As Dean, Plotnikov supervised the formation and development of the Department of Architecture, and played a crucial role in the creation of the construction master's program. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Center for Advanced Studies of Construction Industry Specialists at this institution. His research interests include automatic monitoring of building structures, buildings and structures, non-linear operation of reinforced concrete, and stress state of reinforced masonry. He is a member of the Public Council of the Ministry of Construction of the Chuvash Republic, and holds certificates of honor from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, and both the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Transport of the Chuvash Republic.
