This thesis focuses on the specific application of neural networks for intra prediction. While the general feasibility of neural networks for this task had already been shown early on, there were a multitude of open questions left regarding the optimization of such tools, which are regarded in this work. These include aspects starting from the data preprocessing and training methods to the complexity reduction and codec integration of these tools.
