This book provides a broad understanding of the fundamental tools and methods from information theory and mathematical programming, as well as specific applications in 6G and beyond system designs. The contents focus on not only both theories but also their intersection in 6G. Motivations are from the multitude of new developments which will arise once 6G systems integrate new communication networks with AIoT (Artificial Intelligence plus Internet of Things). Design issues such as the intermittent connectivity, low latency, federated learning, IoT security, etc., are covered. This monograph provides a thorough picture of new results from information and optimization theories, as well as how their dialogues work to solve aforementioned 6G design issues.

Shih-Chun Lin (IEEE Senior Member) is currently Associate Professor with National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. He received the Best Paper Award for Young Authors from the IEEE IT/COM Society Taipei/Tainan Chapter in 2015 and twice the Project for Excellent Junior Research Investigators from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2015 and 2018.

Tsung-Hui Chang (IEEE Senior Member) is currently Associate Professor with The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data, China. He received the Young Scholar Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in 2014, IEEE ComSoc Asian-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2015, and the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Best Paper Award in 2018 and 2021.

Eduard Jorswieck (IEEE Fellow) is currently Full Professor with the Technical University of Braunschweig and Managing Director of the Institute of Communications Technology. He received the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award in 2006. Together with students and collaborators, he has received best paper and best student paper awards at ISWCS 2019, PETS 2019, IEEE ICUFN 2018, IEEE WCSP 2012, IEEE SPAWC 2012, IEEE CAMSAP 2011, Chinacom 2010, and IEEE WPMC 2002. In 2000, he has received the international outstanding student award from BIT, Peking.

Pin-Hsun Lin (IEEE Member) is currently Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. He is a co-recipient of best paper award at ISWCS 2019.
