Synthetic Polymeric Membranes for Advanced Water Treatment, Gas Separation, and Energy Sustainability is a cutting-edge guide that focuses on advanced water treatment applications, covering oily wastewater treatment, desalination, removal of dyes and pigments, photodegradation of organic hazardous materials, heavy metal removal, removal and recovery of nutrients, and volatile organic compounds. Other sections examine the area of gas separation, including acidic gas removal, oxygen enrichment, gas and vapor separation, hydrogen separation, and gas sensing. Final sections cover applications for sustainable energy usage, including the use of synthetic polymer membranes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), and more.

This is a highly valuable guide for researchers, scientists, and advanced students, working with polymer membranes and films, and across polymer science, polymer chemistry, materials science, chemical e

Dr. A.F. Ismail is a Professor at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where he is the Founding Director of the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre. He served as Dean of Research for the Materials and Manufacturing Alliance at UTM and was UTM’s 7th Vice Chancellor from 2021 to 2024. Dr. Ismail has received several awards, including the highly coveted Mustafa Prize (2023), often referred to as the “Muslim Nobel Prize.” With more than 74,000 overall citations, he is a highly cited researcher in "Separation and Purification Technology" (Elsevier) and has made several contributions to membrane science, particularly in polymeric, inorganic, and mixed matrix membranes for applications such as water treatment, desalination, gas separation, hemodialysis, fuel cells, and palm oil refining. Dr. Ismail also plays active roles in the scientific community, serving as Chairman of the Malaysia Membrane Society (MyMembrane) and Vice President of the Aseanian Membrane Society. Wan Norharyati Wan Salleh is currently a senior lecturer at the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia, and an active research fellow at the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), UTM. She is also the Deputy Head of Inorganic Membrane Research Group in UTM. Her research interests lie in the field of fabrication of nanostructured materials for membrane-based separation processes. One of the main focuses of her research is the applications of membranes for acidic gas removal and wastewater treatment. Her present research also includes design of novel photocatalyst for degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater. Her enthusiasm and dedication towards her research are reflected in her numerous scientific publications in high impact factor international referred journals and academics books. Until 2019, Dr. Wan Norharyati has authored more than 90 research papers in leading high impact international journals and 5 book chapters. Her current h-index is 19. Norhaniza Yusof is currently a senior lecturer at the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia, and an active senior research fellow at Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), UTM. She is also the Deputy Head of Nanostructured Materials Research Group in UTM. Her research area focused on the membrane preparation and application, and also nanofibers fabrication for gas storage application. She has published more than 70 indexed papers in leading international journal, 5 book chapters, one original book, and one edited book and has lead 11 research grants. Her current h-index is 9. Dr. Yusof’s research has been recognized with the Excellent Service Award of UTM in 2015 and as the recipient of UTMShine in 2019. She has three patents filed under MyIPO and has won Best of the Best Research Award in Industrial Art and Technology Exhibition (INATEX) UTM in 2018.
